Presentation of the National Maritime Museum
The National Maritime Museum possesses one of the world’s finest and oldest collections, tracing 400 years of maritime and naval adventures. Placed under the supervision of the Ministry of the Armed Forces, it is a museum of art and history, science and technology, human adventure and popular traditions all in one.
Constituted as a network, the National Maritime Museum has six sites: in Paris (currently closed for renovation), in Dugny with its conservation and resource centre, as well as on the Atlantic coast, in Brest, Port-Louis and Rochefort, and the Mediterranean coast, in Toulon. A centre of maritime culture open to all, the National Maritime Museum aims to raise public awareness of the present and future challenges posed by the sea.

Reopening of the Palais de Chaillot site in Paris
The National Maritime Museum’s Paris site will be reopening its doors to the general public in 2023. In a brand new setting restoring the Palais de Chaillot’s full architectural magnificence, the museum will enable visitors to rediscover its heritage collections, including items from the Louvre's Marine rooms, in an emotional immersive journey. By doing so, it will make families and future generations more aware of the 21st century’s major maritime issues.
In parallel with its architectural and museographic renovation, the Palais de Chaillot, a true living environment, will also be equipped with new areas suitable for private receptions: a restaurant, a catering area, a foyer and an adaptable 200-seat auditorium, as well as two seminar rooms, both of which offer breathtaking views of the Eiffel Tower.
