The Rochefort Arsenal Museum is housed in a historical monument, Hôtel de Cheusses, the city’s oldest civil building. Home of the last lord of Rochefort before Louis XIV’s arrival, it became the Navy Commanders’ residence when the naval dockyard was created in 1666. The collections presented and the building itself bear witness to the outstanding heritage site’s historic adventure.

Itinerary and collection

All facets of military shipbuilding are explored: the history and evolution of the techniques, inventions and experiments that made the Rochefort dockyard one of the most creative in the kingdom. Models, tools, paintings and sculptures conjure up visions of long voyages in days gone by.
